204830 2004-01-02 09:19:00 Using Winrar or Winzip Extract the 130oddMb SP1 file to a temp folder then burn the contents of the folder to the root of the CD, not the folder itself.
Otherwise make a new WinXP CD with SP1 integrated into it.
Post back if you need details on how to do this.

204831 2004-01-02 09:42:00 Hi 45south,
The first option sounds the least likely.
Like to explain in detail? (laymans terms)
Cheers

204832 2004-01-02 09:49:00 Sorry. I meant the first option sounds like the most likely.
Thanks.

204833 2004-01-02 09:49:00 Well I just used the second option. I had been meaning to creates a slipstreames XP anyway. SFC /SCANNOW doesn't work with that one either. The CD Boots OK but using Terrey's solution of pushing retry repeatly I got through it. Looks like SFC may be broken with SP1 Elephant (599)
204834 2004-01-02 16:20:00 Yah. I found it.
Read this and find out how to do it: here (www.updatexp.com)
Rebooted and sfc /scannow ran straight through.
Phew.

204835 2004-01-02 18:56:00 A really excellent site with explanation Sparky.

Also what it means is that unlike Win98, where I used to run sfc all the time to check for changed or corrupted system files, you dont really need to run sfc in XP unless the system has got into a real mess. the Windows Protection system is monitoring whats going on all the time and preventing unauthorised system files being written.

Also "authorised" updates and hot fixes from MS that put in new system files wont get overwritten by the original system files from the XP CD.
