2004-01-03 09:43:00 | Hi Guys - I hope someone out there can help me Problem #1 I run Windows XP and have trouble sending emails with attachments. I can receive emails OK, and regular emails but the moment I try sending an attachment my computer stops communicating with the remote computer. I use Outlook Express and all my settings are correct. I can ping paradise.net - both the smtp and pop3 servers and all is OK. I can surf the internet and everything is sweet. My modem is an Inter(R)536EP. I run Norton Internet security and have disabled it - but I still can't send attachments. Any advice will be greatfully received. Problem # 2 I have a computer - P4, 3GHz, 1GBRAM, and a BIOstar Pro mother board running Windows XP professional. I have a dick smith card reader and a liteon dvd/r cd/R. This is the 3rd motherboard and I'm still experiencing problems. The computer spontaneously and randomly shuts down and reboots without any user intervention. I also get the blue screen and the message "a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer". "The system has recovered from a serious error" etc. A second hard drive is not visible and there have been problems recognising the USB 2.0 card reader. The machine will go back to the shop again with digital photos of all the error messages. Do other people have hassles like this with new computers. Is it possible the XP OS disc is faulty, or there is a conflict between the type of RAM and the mother board? I'd like some opinions before I request my money back. Cheers and thanks Campbell

What attachments are you trying to send and how big are they? To whom are you trying to send the attachments and what Email client do they use? I realise that this will not answer your question but if you answer then I'm sure that we can help. Are your attachments scanned pictures, batch files, exe's or what? > > Problem # 2 > I have a computer - P4, 3GHz, 1GBRAM, and a BIOstar > Pro mother board running Windows XP professional. Try looking for Memtest86 on the Internet and creating a boot disk. Boot off the resultant floppy disk and let it run untill the end. This also should be fixed by the manufacturer or retailer as going by the CPU it will be under 12 moths old. > > Cheers and thanks > > Campbell > |

2004-01-03 20:28:00 | Hi Elephant The files I'm trying to send are very small files - jpegs (57.3kB), or word docs or anything. I'm trying to send them to other paradise users or xtra users. I'm trying anything to sort the problem. I was wondering if there was anything in the security settings of IE which prevents me sending attachments. Thanks for the other advice on the RAM. Cheers

2004-01-03 20:48:00 | I seem to recall several threads about problems sending attachments with a Paradise connection. It could well be a problem with their mail server. This type of problem with sending attachments is usually associated with slow connections or a slowdown with the ISP mail server. . Try increasing you server timeout setting slightly. With Outlook Express open select Tools/Accounts Click on the mail Tab Click on Properties Click on the Advanced Tab Increase server timeout to about 2 mins Click Apply and OK You could also try sending the message using Paradise Webmail from their website which may be more sucessful.

2004-01-04 00:33:00 | borrow a friends dial up say xtra or other than paradise for a day and try sending attachements...........you'll make a new dial up connection and a new email account to do this .........that should settle your question of wether it's paradise or what | drcspy (146) | |
2004-01-04 00:35:00 | i'ts doubtful that the xp os disk was faulty......so I'd go for ram too......suggest that you remove one ram stick (I'm assuming that you have two - also assuming they're the same make and etc)...........try running with just one stick.......then the other stick.........and either slot......I've seen situations where the system runs real well with 512mb but not with 1.0gb.........weird but true...... | drcspy (146) | |
2004-01-04 01:06:00 | Hi, I had a similar problem when sending attachments but fixed it by disabling the scanning of outgoing emails. Make sure that you DO scan incoming emails. I use Norton's antivirus & Clear as our ISP. Pauline.

2004-01-04 01:58:00 | Hi C, I've had the same problem with being unable to send pic attachments with e-mails since I installed XP (using outlook express and with Paradise)... posted the prob on this forum and nothing would fix it, the connection would just 'hang' and say sending e-mail etc. This morning I had another problem (serious system error box) and JenC suggested I download a patch for it from Msoft. The patch did not fix the 1st problem, but I am now able to send pics as attachments since I installed the patch! I know it's a long shot, but if you want to give installing the patch a go the link is in the post near top of the forum headed 'Win XP recovered from serious system error' Good luck Joe

2004-01-04 06:29:00 | Have just tuned in to PRESS f1 and read this thread. I have a similar problem -- am unable to send mail on coloured stationery through Paradise. I am using XP and OE 6 and have disabled Norton antivirus outgoing mail scan. I can receive fancy email but cannot send the ones included with OE. Any help would be appreciated.
