2004-01-02 22:38:00 | Can someone tell me what the release version number is for Office 2003? While I was beta testing it I have not yet brought the final version and am about to. Someone has offered me a cheap version that he says was given out at Dick Smiths. I have not seen the CD's or boxes yet but the price sounds too good to be true at $250 for the standard version. I am suspecting they are trying to get rid of some beta CD's as real versions. I don't need more betas as mine are still working at present. I would like the info before I go and check them out.

Me thinks I had better check it out carefully. > word has version ( under help-about ) 11.5604.5703... > but then I've updated it do I don't know. Thanks. Thats what I need to verify it. Maybe he wants cash quickly but I will be on my toes > ps: just remember though that 2k3 will only work with > windows 2k and xp. No issues there. On that note though my work won't use Office 2003 and are only using Office 2000. They say it is because of security issues but then they have only just updated to Windows XP as well. Shame because Office XP would be really handy at work some times. |

2004-01-02 23:28:00 | hey sorry man also just realised, only buy it if it isn't opend, due to the activation and registration requirements! I'd hate you to buy it and then find during the install that the person who sold it to you , that they have already installed it etc etc... That'd be a bastard to explain to MS. :)

2004-01-02 23:57:00 | They were giving them out on the release date at DSE and other vendors, chances are your friend has simple got one of these copies. Talk to them about it.... And Microsoft should be happy to let you install it on your PC... Ring them up and ask about the limitations of on-selling Office.

2004-01-03 00:17:00 | yeah I was one of those lucky people... a mate that still works for DSE rang me up on the day and said "get your arse down to 584" :D I used to work for them, so regardless of that fact they had to give me a copy because I was one of the first five. :)

2004-01-03 04:21:00 | > Can someone tell me what the release version number > is for Office 2003? 11.5612.5703 is what my Excel tells me. 11.5604.5703 Word. 11.5525.5703 Publisher. 11.5608.5703 Outlook. 11.5614.5703 Access. 11.5529.5703 Powerpoint. 11.5510.5703 Picture Manager. (interesting to see they've all got different numbers - was this the same in previous versions of Office?) I would hazard a guess as to say that his copy is probably quite legal and valid and that he's wanting to make a quick buck on an open copy of Office and wants to also be able to undercut the cheap versions of Office out there on the store shelves. The free ones given away are the full Pro version, so it might be a very good buy. Mike.
