2004-01-02 10:33:00 | Hi all Can you please help I have had problems with intermittent shutdown and restart - no warning but after the event I get a MS "Serious error occured" Message. Great help at that stage! Now seemingly without warning and anything I can think of, the Sleep button on my MS Internet Keyboard suddenly starts to "restart" instead of powering down as it used to do. This is very frustrating as all I can do is switch off the AC power. Have checked the Control PAnel and the setting is ok, the BIOS settings have not changed. HAve uninstalled and reinstalled one piece of software (JV16) put in since I knew it was ok and have done a registry clean using JV16 Powertools V1.4.1 ( this has been uninstalled and reinstalled) All to no avail Can anyone please help with either issue? MSI Motherboard, Win XP Home, Athlon XP2600 (New) CPU & 430 Enermax PowerSupply (New) TIA Ron

2004-01-02 21:14:00 | What happens if you shut the computer down the standard way via Start > Turn off Comuputer, rather than using the keyboard. Have you tried uninstalling the keyboard software and then reinstalling? >I have had problems with intermittent shutdown and restart - no warning but after the event I get a MS "Serious error occured" Message. Great help at that stage! You can set the computer to spit out a few more details on the error and not to just restart when it encounters one. Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced Tab. Under Start up and Recovery click the settings button, under System Failure remove the tick from beside "Automatically restart", then OK. This STOP message will then remain on the screen so that you can copy down the message, rather than the PC just rebooting automatically.

2004-01-02 22:09:00 | i once had a problem with my XP, it would hang on the - "windows is shutting down", and update from microsoft update fixed it, i think, or it just fixed itself one day.. | agent_24 (4330) | |
2004-01-04 10:31:00 | That new Enermax PSU, did the problems come straight after the installation of that power supply? I'd try installing in a different PSU (or your old one if possible) and see if the problem persists. Also, it may pay to check your settings in: start>settings>control panel>power options. Maybe theres something there that is contributing to your inadvertent shutdowns. Let us know what happens.

2004-01-05 05:05:00 | i once read in macguide (i had nothing to do at a mac heads house ok!) and someone else had exactly the same problem. dr mac said it could have been the power supply. and since it was a mac that makes the possibility of a software a bit less | Megaman (344) | |
