204837 2004-01-02 04:09:00 Help someone ... trying to write to CD, system does not recognise CD. I've tried 3 different CD's (all new, nothing on them, all 40x 700MB/80min - the specs of previous CD's accepted and written). Material nothing out of the ordinary, just some files I'm archiving. Standard Compaq running XP home. Had this problem once before, but it went away - until now! X-( WalOne (4202)
204838 2004-01-02 04:28:00 same brand cd's? and have you by mistake picked up audio cds? speed_54 (5051)
204839 2004-01-02 04:53:00 Thanks Speed: no, they are CD-R's, but different brands in case that was an issue - all three aren't recognised ... :( WalOne (4202)
204840 2004-01-02 05:09:00 Audio CD's are no different anyhow. How old is your burner? If used a lot, I would only expect about a years use out of one.

204841 2004-01-02 05:12:00 PS the system will read other pre-recorded CD's - audio and data

I also looked at CDEasy as but not at $159 without a trial (as mentioned in another thread today)

204842 2004-01-02 05:13:00 Have you tried rebooting your machine and trying again. I presume you can read cd's from the drive. Dolby Digital (160)
204843 2004-01-02 05:15:00 Everything just over a year old, and as for burning - maximum I've done is 9 discs in that time (I was onto the last, so got some more which is how I eliminated the possibility of a brand / bad batch scenario) WalOne (4202)
204844 2004-01-02 05:20:00 Yes, and yes :| WalOne (4202)
204845 2004-01-02 05:43:00 What progra are you using to burn with, and have you tried another one to see if that sloves it, try CDR-Win or Nero if you haven't already. Maybe uninstalling your cd writer then plugging it back it might get windows to reinstall the drivers for it.

What brand Writer is it and what OS are you using using. I know there was an issue with XP and certain cd writers in the past.

204846 2004-01-02 07:43:00 Thanks Odin and everyone else who responded. Following through on a previous thread, I went looking for software to help out, and found CDBurnerXP Pro, freeware - go to hem.bredband.net

Worked like a charm first off. :D

Ciao
