Find out the make and model of your mobo, vid card, modem etc, download the new drivers and put then in a separate partition or burn them to disk before installing XP. Also backup all your data the same way first. I'm think installing XP over ME will overwrite the whole disk/partition but someone else might be able to advise on that Davesdad |

| 205416 | 2004-01-05 06:16:00 | Hi seacrest, I did just that about a year ago. Memorys fading now though. I installed XP Pro over top of preinstalled ME. I made XP go to its own folder on C drive. ME seemed to disappear, and I kept all my data. Only had to update drivers etc to suit XP. No hassle though. Luck. PS. I had my eyes shut while I did it. I wasnt sure what was going to happen, but it turned out OK. |

| 205417 | 2004-01-05 06:36:00 | if you choose the upgrade option the only data you will use is windows me. but it isnt unknown for upgrades to be unstable and people having to do a clean install where all your data will be lost i use windows xp but dont ask me about upgrading as we got xp home preinstalled |

Even XP can be crappy. Its how you treat your computer that counts |

| 205420 | 2004-01-05 07:44:00 | i FULLY agree with Baldy about winME being an ok o/s............i'm a tech and I've never really come across winME systems which played up more than any other .........in fact it is USERS who cause the problems almost always (wiht the exception of hardware probs) | drcspy (146) | ||
| 205421 | 2004-01-07 10:48:00 | I Had Windows Me Preinstalled on my system when i bought. I just made the three recovery cds for windows me and all the other programs pre installed. I then did a clean install of Windows Xp Professional. |
