205326 2004-01-04 20:44:00 Ok i just bought Professional Edition of Windows XP. I installed it 5 days ago and didn't activate it (dont ask).

Now, for some strange reason, whenever i load the OS, it changes the CMOS time May, and makes me activate. I restarted over and over again, and when i went into CMOS setting, I set the time correctly. The next time i went in ( i had loaded windows ), it was may. The next time i went in (i didnt load windows), it was correct.

So i went into safe mode and changed the windows time, and then it let me in. But what i dont get is that it randomly does this some days, and doesnt others. Once it went to february....

I'm sure it aint my CMOS battery that needs replacing, because it can remember things fine without windows to bother it.

205328 2004-01-04 20:58:00 The simple way is to activate WinXP. It doesn't take long, and will at least not stop you from getting into windows when the time changes to May.

As for your date problem, Windows, or some program in Windows is changing the CMOS settings. I'd suspect possibly a virus or something, but i'm not sure.

Or ya DONT!

You want MS getting your address and spying on you?

Get one of those crackers off the net that makes it think its activated]:)

Or get Win2k :-)

205330 2004-01-05 00:39:00 Just activating, but not registering, does NOT give Microsoft your address etc. etc. somebody (208)
205331 2004-01-05 01:30:00 I Activated my XP and Registered it, but when I noticed how much personal information they wanted on the registraion for I decided to give them only what I thought they needed to know.

I did not Give my address, phone number etc, instead I made comments like "What the hel do you need this for" and "You have no need to know this" I find the registraion information required for MS to be very invasive, I was half expecting to find a question asking how many times I go to the toilet and what colour (if any) my underwear is. There is no legitimate reason that I can think of as to why MS needs the kind of information they ask for during registration, it is just too personal.

How do they do this? Please tell.

I said activate. It's up to you whether you register or not - where you would provide name address etc.

Cracks are all well and good, until you try to install a service pack or similar ...
