| 205467 | 2004-01-05 11:02:00 | DSE's is selling Mustek Slim DVD Player 5.1 Channel for $107 and Mustek Slim DVD Player 2 Channel selling for $97. Could users of the above units please comment on these units. Are they good and reliable? Are they all multi zone capable? The price difference of these 2 models is only $10, which is a better buy? Or, are they worth buying at all? ?:| Cheers |

| 205468 | 2004-01-05 11:18:00 | I have the 5.1 version. It performs just fine. Plays anything. The first one refused to play CDs. Took it back and DSE had no problem giving me another on the spot. The Warehouse Stationery store had 2 channel DVDs befor Xmas, $89.95. They were branded differently but were Mustek units. A relative bought one and that also performed fine. At that price they are a disposable item, so its not worth getting too scientific about value. Quality control may not be as good as on a $300 unit, so just check its functions when you get it. I have another more expensive DVD as well in another room, and it will not play .jpgs etc as the Mustek does. Nor is there any difference in the DVD quality. As to 2 channel vs 5.1, if you never plan on connecting it to a 5.1 amplifier, go for 2 channel. Otherwise go for 5.1, its not much difference after all. They are programmable for any zone, all zone etc. You can also turn off Macrovision protection if you want to. Instructions are available on the web (www.dvdhelp.com) to do this, its accessed from a "hidden menu" via the remote. |
