205215 2004-01-04 07:26:00 Hi,

My current system temperature is 49 degrees clesius and the CPU temperature is 66 degrees celsius.
Are these normal temperatures?

Thanks,
Scattershot06 (4844)
205216 2004-01-04 07:35:00 My temps are mobo 36 and processor 39. I understand that 70 is about tops for the processor so you might be getting kinda close but then it depends on the proc you have.

205218 2004-01-04 08:24:00 It would seem that there should be more air flow through your case to get the system temperature down to nearer to room temperature, let's say about 30C, then the CPU temperature will come down about by roughly the same, say 45-50C.

It's always better to get more flow through the case rather than investing in fancy CPU heatsinks and fans.

Perhaps you need to add a case fan, re-arrange cables to allow flow, or cut holes in the side of the case and add a 120mm fan etc etc.

205219 2004-01-04 19:24:00 AMD CPUs tend to get quite hot, so I wouldn't be too worried. If you're experiencing system crashes because of it, then I would start getting concerned. Otherwise, try to improve airflow in your case (possibly install a case fan, or tidy up cables) and make sure there is enough "breathing room" around your PC ie. it isn't leaning hard up against a wall. somebody (208)
205220 2004-01-04 20:31:00 For the 10 billionth time,a correctly set up amd cpu does not run hot.

Now,Did you install the fan/heatsink yourself?

Is it mounted in the correct oriantation, was the surface cleaned and good quality thermal paste used?

Is the case positioned so expelled air has room to disapate?

205221 2004-01-04 20:38:00 Well, I (unfortunately) didn't install my one, and my AMD Duron runs at 49 degrees centigrade... often jumping to 53..... and my case is blimmin noisy as it is.

I have pc alert III, and it often screems at me cause the mobo goes over 112 degrees randomly, which cant be good.

As far as im concerned, the more fans the better.

Maybe not "hot", but they DO run hotter without extra cooling than Pentium CPU's, there is no denying that .

The following statement is from AMDs Technical FAQ PDF ( . amd . com/us-en/assets/content_type/DownloadableAssets/FAQ_Rev05_ENG . pdf" target="_blank">www . amd . com), page 5:

An approximation to the typical reading from a BIOS or an external software utility is expected to be around 60C-65C or lower .

AMD state their maximum temps are 85C, 90C and 95C, depending on your processosr type, which is determined by the Ordering Part Number on the top of the processor .

I personally wouldn't like to see my chip anywhere near 85C, but I now don't get all panicky when my temperature reaches 65C on these real hot days . I have 2 extra case fans and recently installed a 12cm fan on the side, with a switch (as it sounds like a small microlight when running!) . I can switch this fan on to bring the temp down quickly if things get too warm in there .

205223 2004-01-04 20:56:00 All I was saying was that they run considerably hotter than Intel chips (Intel chips running approx 30 degrees, AMD approx 50-60 degrees), and that it is of no real concern, as the maximum temperature as stated by Jester is well over the 66 degrees which Scattershot is experiencing. somebody (208)

The fan supplied with earlier duron cpu's tended to become noisy and lazy without much use.
