205769 2004-01-07 00:47:00 I am building a new PC and am interested in running two monitors. I was going to get a Radeon 9600XT and two LCD screens. I am going to be running Linux on this setup and want some help on how I go about it. I want the screens to run separately so that I can just move the move from one screen to the other not just mirrored

Thanks

205770 2004-01-07 01:54:00 Depending on what Distro you're running, I know that Fedora has redhat-config-xfree86 that'll set that up for you.

Aside from that you'll have to read the documentation that comes with the drivers.

What Distro?

Chill.

205771 2004-01-07 01:59:00 i personaly could not get two monitors working on fedora, but the problem could be that it needs diferent video cards.

So i am still wanting fedora core 2.

205772 2004-01-07 04:48:00 As Chilling said, Fedora has support for dual monitors - and this goes back to the days it was RedHat and from what I've gathered Mandrake has the same abilities. Essentially every distro of Linux has the capacity to handle dual monitors, except most people find it easier having the GUI tools to do it for them.

Does your graphics card support dual monitors or did you just try plugging a monitor into the onboard card and leaving the other with AGP? You will find that this will not work because the computer will only use one display adaptor which is determined by Windows and set in the BIOS.

205774 2004-01-07 05:32:00 Linux can do Dual-Monitors with TV-O (Composite and S-Video). It also does dual-monitors between seperate cards.

I have no experience with DV etc and wouldnt know about the matter sorry.

One thing to not is that Linux doesnt have certain restrictions that Doze does when it comes to dual-monitors :-)

Fedora isnt at error, other users have been able to do dual-monitors fine!
