I run system file checker and here the following files are corruputed

cryptext.dll
mscat32.dll
cryptui.dll
cryp.net.dll
mmsign32.dll

I did a search in fine files or folder in the windows 98 setup cd but the dll aren't there
Where can i find them and restore a original copy of it?

205704 2004-01-06 18:53:00 they'll be there alright but they are stored inside the compressed 'cab' files on the cd you need to use the SFC tool to 'extract' them it's pretty easy drcspy (146)
205705 2004-01-06 22:15:00 Have you just updated IE to version 5.01 and then discovered these corrupted files?

If this is the case, have a read of this MS Knowledge Base Article (support.microsoft.com).

Ignore if this is not relevant to your situation. :)

205706 2004-01-07 02:03:00 the files aren't located at the win98_31.cab file.
I shall have a look at the second post from jen c!

205708 2004-01-07 02:28:00 TPPINST5 caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 01af:bff7b9f6

Internet explorer has nothing to do with the problem

That program i run which causes an error is a cd writer driver for Aopen 4048.
Any idea how i can fix this?
Would installing the driver in safe mode works

205709 2004-01-07 03:50:00 You have the wrong name for some of those corrupted files, cryp.net.dll should be cryptnet.dll, and mmsign32.dll should be mssign32.dll.

The cryp*.dll files are in win98_27.cab and mssign.dll is in win98_37.cab (at least for win98se)

You can use SFC as Stu said, to extract them one by one as SFC comes up with the corrupted message.

However, they may well be earlier versions as IE 6 most probably will have loaded later versions when it was installed, so the best bet may be to re-install IE 6.

As for the other problem, it would pay to uninstall the AOPEN stuff, do a good disk and registry clean up, get all the corrupted dlls seen to first, and then try re-installing the AOPEN drivers. It would seem your system is in a bit of a mess, proceed a step at a time.

205711 2004-01-07 06:32:00 to get these .dll files i recommed to go to www.dll-files.com and type the .dll you want and then download them. its simple, and i use it too, one of the handiest sites on the net.
hope this helps.

205712 2004-01-07 07:16:00 Sorry to disagree Patrick, but that would be the last port of call and only if all else failed. The files mentioned dont appear to be listed there, neither is the OS obvious, and the corrupted files have in all probability come from IE 6. It is therefore important to replace the bad dlls with the same versions if at all possible, that's why I suggested re-install IE 6.

For myself I'd rename those files in dos, so that windows doesnt know they are there, then re-install IE 6 over the top of itself.
