205723 2004-01-06 20:49:00 Hi,

As some of you might remember, I bought a Sony DSCP-72 last May - that camera was okay until a friend dropped it, stuffing up the lens and the LCD screen. Sony said $980 to fix it!!! So i've decided to go with the new camera option as they are now approximately $700 for a new DSCP-72.

However, I wasn't quite satisfied with the 3x optical zoom, and am looking for a camera that has more optical zoom. I've come across the Fuji S3000 which has 3.2mp AND 6x optical zoom. It's like SLR style, and looks good. Is Fuji a good brand? or should i look elsewhere like Canon, Nikon etc?

Thanks

caffy,

PS: I am aware that there's an similar post as well, but thats around the $400 mark, I've got up to $700 to spend, according to the insurance company :)

205724 2004-01-06 21:38:00 I Have one, its excellent. The only downside is that the max resolution for movies is 320x240 whereas I believe the dscp-72 does 640x480.
Image quality is excellent. The 6x optical zoom is a big bonus and it has a number of manual features the sony lacks. Used for 5 months and no problems whatsoever. You will need a larger xd card
dick smith has them $639 + $65 for 64 meg xd card

205725 2004-01-06 23:06:00 I have the Fuji S602Z, which also has the 6 x Zoom (I have a 1.85 Teleconverter lens as well).

I have had a Fuji MX2700 for years, and can confirm the quality is excellent

205726 2004-01-07 07:27:00 I generally found that Olie, Kodak and Fuji tend to have better price rations than the bigger names, the quality is nothing but competitive to the others.... nomad (3693)

Video recording isn't a problem for me, since i've just bought a Canon Digital video camera . Still haven't got it yet :(

What features does the camera have? As the FujiFilm website wasn't informative . BlackWhite, Sepia, different photo modes etc?

thanks,
caffy

PS: looks like i might be getting this - fingers crossed - I went to Dick Smiths, and asked to look at the camera and play around with it, and it was fab, felt good to hold . Will get a 128mb memory with it - IF i get it!

205728 2004-01-08 01:48:00 Here are two good sites with reviews of digital cameras which I have found: Imaging Resource (www.imaging-resource.com/) and DP Review (http:). Imaging resource convinced me that I had made a good buy, even though I went over my predecided limit in an auction. :D Graham L (2)
