| 205533 | 2004-01-05 20:26:00 | I wrote to you guys asking help about this a long time ago (ok so only like 20 days), but only one person replied. I gathered that not many people knew the answer (or for some reason had cursed me and decided to ignore my threads). Now that i know the answer, i figured you all should know: You cannot redirect ports to computers which have their IP addresses signed to them using DHCP. |

That makes sense seeing as you have to specify the IP address of the PC you want it redirected to.... And seeing as your get a new IP after a while with DHCP, it kinda kills the purpose. For a small LAN though, its not that hard to use Static IP's. I find it much easier personally, but then again Ive got a very tight-knit group of PC's here ;-) It also makes editing the Hosts file a bit easier for referencing the LAN'd PC's :D |

By giving the mac address the IP then if the PC dies you can salvage the Network card, rebuild the PC and the same address is given to the new PC. only prob is if the NIC dies and then you need to edit dhcp. |
