The win xp firewall will only block incoming traffic, not outgoing, so viruses etc.. Can still get out, so you will need to get another firewall like ZoneAlarm ( there are other out there) is a must, also you need a Anti-Virus Program like AVG - http://www.grisoft.com/ to really stop viruses.

It is better than nothing but will not prevent or alert you to undesirable outgoing traffic. A third party firewall should be considered.

No, it will not stop viruses. You will need an addtional anti-virus program.

If AVG installed on both computers you should be fine for protection against viruses. Remember to scan all downloaded files prior to opening, including all attachments received via email. Your firewall protection should also be fine but as I have not used ZoneAlarm for a while someone else will have to confirm that.

206164 2004-01-09 11:04:00 You should be able to share internet with ZA on high. Just put the ip address of the second computer in the local zone! klau19 (4862)
206165 2004-01-09 23:34:00 local zone? ive added the other computers IP to the trusted list, and ive enabled outgoing DNS in zone alarm but it wont share unless its on medium. Jimmy D (2061)
206166 2004-01-10 00:01:00 you can still get viruses but most likely your antivirus will immedely put it in "quarentine" or something like that. while i was downloading xpsp1 i got 2 viruses and norton put them in quarentine. i had internet connection firewall on and it didnt stop them Megaman (344)

I think a little clarification is needed. A firewall is quite different from an Antivirus program.

A firewall is basically a program (or hardware) that prevents unauthorized users from gaining access to a computer network or that monitor transfers of information to and from the network.

An Antivirus is a tool to detect and remove computer viruses.

An Antivirus doesn't usually act also as a firewall, and vice versa.
