2004-01-08 22:45:00 | Hi, A fresh string based on my recent problem - directed to Godfather initially but please anyone with more intelligence tham me - would be welcomed. Keeping in mind GF comments re MAPI, which I will have to get a tech., to tranlate- This morning I was able to open one "attached" chess move, but the second as usual failed. Twenty minutes later it suddenly worked again, and I was able to open an independant (non chess) attach.,as well- which would not previously. While in the state of euphoria I did 12 e. mail chess moves ( the culprit in the faults of yesterday, -- all without trouble- . but when I tried yet again to do an incoming chess move- once again nothing worked- not even the previous successfully sent ones would open. I have checked and re checked the setting microsoft sent where one can stop attachments being opened or sent-for fear of a virus-- and which certainly does stop attachments being used, if ticked- and that is as usual still unticked--- ie I can send and receive attach., as normal. Now I have to wait until my tech., tied up at his work, can come in late Sat pm and help- BUT can anyone save this boy's efforts, in the light of the successes of this morning This is not meant to flog a dead horse, but as I had success this a m does that open a new pathway in the search? effie c

2004-01-09 00:14:00 | I have given up sorry. I downloaded and installed "That Game" Chess from the site you gave and tested its operation (hence the MAPI comments) You commented in your previous string that: O K I am going to look at this MAPI- but to close down O E means I can't do my chess ( they are not IE sent as is the game postcard chess which I play in conjunction- this is in "cartoon" pencil outline peices not like THat game which is e mail attached and in colour. So it seems its a different game or method that you originally advised? Does this mean I wasted my efforts looking into "That Game" Chess, when you are using (and having trouble with) something else entirely? Basically, I have no idea what you are now using and how it operates. :) ?:|

2004-01-09 01:37:00 | Hi G F' No "that game" is the one- if you play chess you will understand that on or offline you can maneuvre as you need to - correct it and store the outgoing game in Out Ex "out" box- and you can go back and re open the played game ( as I had to to see if the attach., fault is there or not- but Out Express is needed to carry the game. With "postcard chess" it is little more than a piece of paper with the outline of the pieces , which require Outlet Ex to receive but uses Int Ex to work with and can only be maneuvred while online only, one can re do a move just prior to final "send" if one sees an error - once sent, that is it - even the Nortons anti virus does not come into play, whereas in "that game " it does I sent Smithie38 games--x3- and it worked for all three- but as I went to another opponent's game - it stopped and did not come into being able to open until midday today- now it has gone off again. My idea of switching the enquiry was in case - as I had failed to open a series of attachments - supposedly 'cos I did not have JPEG installed- and if that was because of this intermiitant fault- was it in fact not specific to "that game" not opening. In fact I suspect not, but I don't know- roll on this tech., visit tomorrow I have yet to find an attach., that is left over from the past ( I deleted 700 odd "sent" e mails at a time- I get 50 e mails, mainly chess, moves a day and they build up believe me www.postcardchess.com-is the address for postcardchess and www.thatgame.com----The suspect faulty one---if you care to look If you were interested you would be very welcome to send me the start of a new game from that red knight icon on your desktop- I used to be good- now I ain't but it keeps my brain agile- I think!!! :-) effie c

2004-01-09 02:12:00 | I am still confused . . . ?:| I don't see the relationship between the 2, or why you need OE open to use "That Game" Chess (which I am still assuming is the one that will not open for you) as it has its own SMTP client . It certainly does not use OE for me, as I will not use it . I have sent a game to myself (at another email address) and collected it in Eudora, just fine . However neither Eudora or Outlook Express sent it, it was sent internally from the game . Hence I am confused as to why OE is sending it for you . That Game Chess website recommends using "compatability mode" under XP if it runs "slow" . You will have tried that for sure, but I have to ask . (Compatability mode - right click the Chess ICON on the desktop, select Properties, then the Compatability tab and tick the "Run this program in compatability mode for:" Then select Windows 95 or Windows 98/ME (your choice) . Apply and OK

2004-01-09 03:17:00 | Hi , I thort I would be clever- I went back in time to the beginning of Jan with the XP wizard and tried supposedly bypassing the fault- which has been there since 5 th Jan- no such luck Right a friend tells me I am verbose in my enquiry - he may be right, but in answer to your last post, I had tried the compatibility setting -, my second son had his 'puta stolen and his replacement will not readily accept the chess game- and it had before-both are on XP, he too tried the compatibility mode with little improvement. BUT Smithie 38 and I had no trouble installing "that Game" on XP and not have to modify it - so why son is in strife I don't know. I can see where you come from re Outlook Express, but after you "send" that game and get a reply - the only available engine as I see it is Out Ex - or in your case something like it.I can't see it coming in without a carrier if that is the word- there are only the two contacts with the WWW - Out Ex and Int Ex- and without them the incoming move can't arrive Thanks again GF effie c Still I thank you GF once again - looks like I have to wait until this tutor of old- now a tech arrives late sat- and boy will I be watching what he does

2004-01-09 03:28:00 | > looks like I have > to wait until this tutor of old- now a tech arrives > late sat- and boy will I be watching what he does I suggest that you ask your tutor to show you what he is doing and allow you to write down notes if necessary as he goes through the procedure. It is very easy to forget once it has all been done and/or two weeks later.

2004-01-15 02:07:00 | Hi all Re erratic opening of specific attachment. My beloved tech came back and said "sorry, a complete re install of XP should correct this. I my first re install did not correct it, so he came in and backed up most essentails and completed a virtual virgin install---- BINGO I now have no problem whatsoever, apparently this does not happen very often, and we are inclined to blame if anything on my abortive trip into webshots- after wallpapers- as no no as per Godfather and many others. Webshots worked O K in W 98 SE but not in XP Now I have to re install wordprocessors etc - and that will take time-plus I have just done( during nightime hours the SP1 update from microsoft(3 hours + a further three hours to download the other of 44 critical updates!!! Don't, anybody, do this sort of thing lightly. Thanks all effie c
