For info, running Win XP Home Edition fully updated, just upgraded from 2001 to 2004, no installation problems (except plenty of patience needed). After completion of installion run update again no problems. Then did a file clean and defrag, again no problems. Then set up a disk check, shut down and at first restart got the usual blue screen but it said "Cannot open volume for direct Access", after 10 very long seconds of blank screen got the usual starting procedure. After some work shut down OK, made a second start with the same result, did some work, shut down OK. Made a third start and got a full routine disk check finishing with a clean disc and a normal start that was perhaps a bit slower than previous. Am now a firm beleiver in the saying "Third Time Lucky". |
