205998 2004-01-08 02:50:00 How about some of your PC specs for starters? What processor, RAM, size of PSU and maybe the motherboard details might be useful as well. ;-)

Why do you have doubts about the cooling working properly? What temperature readings are you getting? Do you have problems with other games as well?

One last thing: have you installed all the patches for AOE2?

205999 2004-01-08 02:56:00 If you have doubts about the cooling working properly, it will pay to remove those doubts. Either the cooling is working properly or it isn't. :D

If it isn't, the CPU will overheat, and will either die or shut down. Shutting down appears to the happening when the computer is busiest. So you might be lucky.

How old is the computer? If it is still guaranteed, back to the shop. If not there are ways to check the functioning of the fans. The finger test works well ... scorched brown marks on the finger mean "far too hot". Being able to hold your finger to the heatsink indicates about 70°C. There are programmes which indicate temperatures.

206000 2004-01-08 03:30:00 it cant be the cooling

aoe2 was made for windows 95

it really isnt demanding on my 12.ghz, 128mb ram, 40 gb windows xp home computer

possibly it needs reinstalling

also try running it under "compatibility mode" with windows 95
