2004-01-09 03:58:00 | Ah, Graham, the wonderful multiplicity of meanings within the english language. I dont want to condone illegalities, but just note Bloggsy that MS is withdrawing support from Win98, just as it has from Win 1.0 through to Win 95, and what you do within the privacy of your own home as long as it doesnt hurt anyone else............... :) You cant buy a new Win98 from MS anyway.

2004-01-09 04:24:00 | I have 3 copies of win98,none of which are or will ever be installed on a computer,if you want a key just say so. | metla (154) | |
2004-01-09 04:25:00 | Another thought, you can't put that hard drive into another PC and use software to Undelete/recover it? Enough to get the User.dat and system.dat off of it. Or cruise Trade-me for a copy with COA.

2004-01-09 05:15:00 | Just consider that fundamentally, all original Win98 CDs have at sometime or other been purchased new and MS has received the money for all of them. If they are no longer prepared to sell them to anyone as part of their policy of getting people to upgrade to XP (and higher) then I leave the morality of that to people to weigh up as to what is ethical or otherwise. | Terry Porritt (14) | |
2004-01-09 05:21:00 | > It is not "legal" with any vesion of Windows to run > it on more than 1 PC. Not true at all. There are muti volume licences so that companies can install the product on all their PC's. They would look mighty stupid having to keep all those keys around just in case.

But it was obvious that we were talking of a home situation, and with volume licensing they are all effectively separately paid licenses anyway. I used to have 40 of them and am very aware of the fact. |
