2004-01-10 23:22:00 | During Normal computer work, I have received the following pop-up message, presumably from Msgsvr32, which says" Java Plug-in for Netscape should not be used for Microsoft Internet Explorer. Please use Jave Plug-in for Microsoft Internet Explorer." Now I find that I get this message on Startup, too. WHen I press the Help/About in Mozilla, my default browser, it tells me that I have "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)", although I doubt it as I believe I have the latest Mozilla Browser. To clarify this, I also have most of the extensions available to Mozilla which includes a toolbar that lies about it's status. I have this set to: Revert to Original User Agent. Also I am using Win 98 SE with IE 6 point something. A brief search through F1 was done using key words "pop-up" and "message", but to no avail. What do I do to recitify the pop-up from appearing again? Would it be a simple as resetting the toolbar as described above to another setting which does not use the words "compatible with"?

Anyway by chucking your error message into Google the following came up: Java plugin for Firebird /Internet Explorer For the past couple of days, every time I've loaded up Firebird I've been getting the error "Java Plug-in for Netscape Navigator should not be used in Microsoft Internet Explorer. Please use Java Plug-in for Microsoft Internet Explorer instead". Realised today it was because I had downloaded the User Agent Switcher and I had left it in the Internet Explorer Settings. Set it back to the default (Mozilla) settings and everything worked great again. Assumptively the agent identifier tells everything it's IE, including the Java plug-in. |

2004-01-10 23:49:00 | Hmm... this looks like it might work too... But I'd try the first fix - if you're that proud of using Firebird/Mozilla, why would you want to hide the user agent identifier as IE? In the pref.js file (C:\..\document&settin..\mozilla\profiles\default\prefs.js) remove the line which says user_pref("general.useragent.override", "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)");

2004-01-11 00:20:00 | I'm using j2re1 . 4 . 2 . 01 - Is this not the latest, Tweake?? _ thanks, Anyhow . Currently I'm working on WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot's suggestions which both appear to revolve around a postive anwer of "yes" to my last question in original post . Actually, WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot, I think that altering the file as you suggest could be overkill - but might have to if altering User Agent from within Mozilla does not work . As you say, I will try that first suggestion of yours first . You ask: " if you're that proud of using Firebird/Mozilla, why would you want to hide the user agent identifier as IE?" . The answer really is a lemon, as I have only just discovered User Agent, and am learning by trail and error how it works . Hmmmm - seems like more error than trial right now, but we'll box on . . . . . . . . Will post later to update how I got on - Thanks guys .

2004-01-11 02:30:00 | OK - I tried deleting that line in "C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\9-------.slt\prefs.js". However, on re-start, the error message re-appears. Should I go to a similar path for IE and change a peference file there? Or, should I try "cookperm.txt" in the aforemention directory?
