2004-01-10 21:23:00 | Hi there guys ^^ I just wanna ask a thing or two about Dual Channel DDR ram . I also had a look at some of the previous Dual Channel forums . And I came across this forum Dual Channel Ram ( . pcworld . co . nz/thread . jsp?forum=1&thread=41884&message=221163&q=Dual+Channel#221163" target="_blank">pressf1 . pcworld . co . nz) CYaBro said that "you can use just one stick if you want" Right now I have a Hynix 512 DDR400 (1 stick), does this mean that I can run Duanl Channel without having a second stick of 512 Ram? If so, how do I do that? And the second thing that I want to ask is that, to have your computer running in Dual Channel Mode (with 2 stick of RAM), is all you have to do is have the Ram in the right DIMMs and than it will automatically run in Dual Channel? Or do you have to go in the bios and change some settings? My comp specs are: P4 2 . 4Ghz HT, ASUS P4P800-VM Mainboard and Hynix 512MB DDR400 (1 stick) . My FSB is running at 800Mhz and the RAM is at 400Mhz . I dont know if this will help but my 512 Ram right now is in the DIMM A1 . Thanks alot for your time guys :D Jase Sen

2004-01-10 21:28:00 | Jase, You'll need 2 sticks of RAM to run in Dual Channel Mode. you need to read the motherboard manual, and make sure you insert the two (IDENTICAL) sticks of RAM in the correct DIMM slots. It would most likely be DIMM1 and DIMM3.

2004-01-10 22:15:00 | Cool :D , so once I insert the 2nd stick of ram (identical to the 1st stick) in the right DIMM it should automatically run in Dual Channel mode, right? Just wondering, would I be able to notice a huge improvement from it or would it just be a minor improvement? I also saw in one the forums that once you have 2 sticks of Ram running in Dual Channel mode, the ram will be come registered ram (I hope you know what I mean) is that good? Also in the future if I have 2 sticks of 1GB DDR400(Hynix), so my comp will have 2X 512MB and 2X1GB, will it still be able to run Dual Channel together? Or will it run separately (dont know if its possible, just wanna make sure nothing like that will happen) . Btw about what CYaBro said, is that possible though? Running Dual Channel with 1 stick of ram . . . . Thanks again ^^ Jase Sen

2004-01-11 01:11:00 | I don't think that's what CYabro meant. You can only run dual-channel RAM with 2 sticks of ram. No it does not become registered RAM. Yes - if you have your extra 2x 1gb then that will also run dual-channel.

2004-01-11 19:22:00 | Yea, sorry I was a bit misleading. What I meant was you can run the PC with one stick of RAM as normal BUT you need 2 sticks of identical RAM to run in dual channel mode. :)
