206306 2004-01-09 08:01:00 Hi all
what is the best way to format a hard drive (that's only going to be used as storage). It currently consists of three FAT 32 partitions, a Linux partition and a Linux swap file.

206307 2004-01-09 08:05:00 Depending on your OS, make a boot disk from Doze and boot off it.

Run fdisk

If you're running Linux on the PC you wanna format it in, then try fdisk, cfdisk, parted or qtparted :D

cfdisk is probably nicest.. :-)

Hope this helps

Cheers

I am running XP, have made a boot disk and booted off it. It comes up with a prompt but it does not allow me to type anything in??

206309 2004-01-09 09:07:00 Going from memory right click onto MyComputer and choose Disk Management. Can't remember but I think this tool should be able to delete Linux partitions. Then make new partition and format. JohnD (509)

206312 2004-01-09 09:59:00 Do not use a boot disk

Just boot XP normally, right click on "My Computer" icon and select "manage"

Select Storage, then Disk Management (local)

The drive should be there and you should be able to delete partitions, format etc.

No need for any other method usually.

206313 2004-01-09 10:02:00 You don't need PM for this.

I think I was wrong (slightly) - is it right click on MyComputer and choose manage.

Anyway you should get a screen sho tlike:

206314 2004-01-10 00:05:00 it took me 3 hours, but disk is now formatted using XP's Computer Management. Slow though?

206315 2004-01-10 00:31:00 if its an old hard drive, does it have an old bios version? get into bios (by pressing delete, f1 or f2 at startup) and select "low level format" Megaman (344)
