206362 2004-01-16 23:33:00 There is only a tick in the box for DMA (no mention of PIO), I tried it, rebooted and still the same problem.

Let me just say, THANK YOU, to all you guys for the effort you are obviously making on my behalf. I REALLY appreciate it. I promise if I ever get this sorted out I will post the details.

206363 2004-01-19 08:46:00 One small step for man

I installed Nero 6.0.0.13, and was able to copy a cd to a 700mb CDR.

Feeling really good, I tried burning a single file, still no joy.

Mitsubishi not able to offer much, suggested "Remove the IDE controllers under device manager, and let Windows re-detect them."

Does anybody have any thoughts on this, I am a little wary of making changes which might prove disasterous.

Would it help if I posted the fault log from nero?

206364 2004-01-22 06:27:00 OK I give in.
I have decided to reinstall my operating system.
Looking around on the internet, it seems that this is the only solution which has worked for others with the same problem.
I will post when I get up again after hopefully solving the problem.

206365 2004-01-22 11:39:00 > " ATAPI CD-R/RW 6x4x30 COULD NOT PERFORM FIXATION"

that error only happened to me once - when i was using a really old
10x CD-RW, that - belive it or not i found in the back of a bus. (not scratched much either). that particlular CD worked for quite a while, but occasionally would stuff up and let nothing but my computer read and write it. just before the CD-RW seemed to have totally died - nero gave me the Fixation error, but it cant have been my drive - it is a new 52x/24x/52x Cyberdrive that can even burn 99minute Cd's without problems, so it must have been the CD-RW. although i dont know what the hell i would do either if i had your problem.

206366 2004-01-22 11:48:00 is it an option to put the cd-rom drive into another computer and trying it out? MrBeef (342)
206367 2004-01-22 14:07:00 Is there actually a 1gb cd?Or maybe a double sided cd?is 700mb the most u can put on a cd? yingxuan (3330)
206368 2004-01-22 18:49:00 Your machine and the "other machine" are they using the same operating system?
Could be that your windows explorer is reading things as 1k = 1024b whereas the other system maybe reading 1k as 1000b

Can someone do the math to see if i'm right
