206594 2004-01-11 00:38:00 Am running Win98SE. Have got two recent problems which may (or not) be connected - happened around same time. Noticed I'd suddenly lost all of my pre-set shortcut keys (eg ctrl/alt/n to bring up notebook). However I couldn't re-set them; would bring up icon, rekey shortcut in but it wouldn't work. But it still shows as ctrl/alt/n in shortcut properties.
Also sometimes ( but not always ) when I'm trying to correct this a message flashes up to say Explorer has created an illegal operation and will be shut down etc. I hit "Close" - it closes then reopens immediately and all is well.
Tried reinstalling Windows over itself but no joy. I also run Powerdesk in preference to Explorer but have done so for years. Any suggestions appreciated. Jim

206596 2004-01-11 05:53:00 Yes! Must admit I was a bit surprised. Can remember from a couple of years ago getting responses within 30 minutes. Still hoping for a cure, Jim jaybee (1199)
206597 2004-01-11 08:32:00 You may have already done this, but have you tried deleting one of the desktop icons with a faulty keyboard shortcut, then re-creating it again?

If it doesn't work, at least your thread will appear at the top again. :)

Cheers.

206598 2004-01-11 10:32:00 Curiouser and curiouser. Tried changing shortcuts. Each time I changed then tried out the change I got he message "explorer has performed illegal etc" - but only once for each change. next time I tried the shrtcut - nothing. Had the impression that the two faults were connected but this sort of confirms it. No nearer a solution but
thanks for that bit of lateral thinking. Jim
