206451 2004-01-10 03:38:00 Can you auto login on Windows 2000 Profesional, and Windows 98?

I find it annoying turning computer on, then having to wait for the password box. I just want to turn on, walk away, and come back, and its done. How?

206452 2004-01-10 03:52:00 I have done some work on this. TweakUI has an option to do this. If you need more detail then call back and I will link you to relevant info.
Regards Rob.

206453 2004-01-10 04:53:00 Ill have a look at TweakUI maybe. Is there a different version for 98, and 2000? mejobloggs (264)
206454 2004-01-10 05:16:00 Think it is the same for both. I have just tried on Win2000Pro, no probs.
I have Win98SE as dual boot but I have no login probs on it so don't need to try.

206455 2004-01-10 05:36:00 Ok, well does not work on my windows 98 machine. It still asks me for a password at startup, and that clear user option is off like it said. mejobloggs (264)
206456 2004-01-10 05:57:00 Hmmmmmmm, did you type in the password that you would normally use? zqwerty (97)
206457 2004-01-10 09:41:00 I dont normally have a password for the 98 one, as it is only on a home network, and doesnt need anything, just to be logged in. mejobloggs (264)
206458 2004-01-10 10:08:00 tweakui will auto log you in into to home network.
I asked the same question a while back but no one was able to help me, but I did find a way, use windows login as your primary login, set tweakui to auto login (don't forget to set username and password).
It appears that the Microsoft networking client some how communicates with windows logon client.
one thing though if your Win2000 machine is using NTFS the win98 machine will see it in your workgroup but because win98 cant read NTFS you will not be able to map drives from 98 machine to 2k machine

206459 2004-01-11 01:54:00 Sorry, lets stop some confusion.

I have a win 98 laptop, on a home network. I do not log into windows itself, only to the home network, and i just have username as notebook, and no password at all.

I havnt tried the wind 2000 pro one yet, as it is my aunty's laptop that she uses for work, but she would like it to auto login.

Dunno why it wont work. I tried putting some letters in, because i thought the password blank might have confused it. But that wasnt it.

206460 2004-01-11 02:21:00 If you leave the password blank it won't auto log correctly. You must put the correct password into the blank space for the TweakUI fix to work. zqwerty (97)
