206790 2004-01-11 09:53:00 I just got myself an old tv tuner. It is a dynalink CPH0x1, I am not entirely sure which, and it shouldn't matter for what I am asking (it is based on the brooktree Bt8x8 processor).

I have got it running quite successfully under xp with the wdm drivers, and a bunch of different apps for tv viewing.

What I want to know is:
Does anyone know of a good program for watching tv with - I have trial versions of ChrisTV, FlyDS, bTV, TView2000, and had a couple of others too.

I have found flyDS to be the best so far - but it only does the TV part well.

I now want an app that can record/capture tv properly. I am running winXP pro, SP1, I have plently of disk space (fat32), and a 1.2GHz Athlon. I know this is more than capable of doing the job, as I had a mate doing exactly what I want with an old p2 500, and they were quality rips too.

Does anyone know of a good app, and more importantly a good codec, and the apropriate settings that will allow good quality rips in real time?

I have tried ripping in raw, divX, Xvid, microsoft mpeg, intel indeo, and a bunch of others at all kinds or quality settings, but I always see about half the frames getting dropped, unless I have the quality at below 400kbps, and the res at 320x200 (I want 768x576).

Even ripping in raw format results in dropped frames, which makes me think that I need a better app. Can anyone assist with this?

Cheers,
Craig.

206791 2004-01-11 11:45:00 For viewing flyDs is the best I have found

for recording I have found snapstream personal video station http://www.snapstream.com by far the best but just hope your video card is compatible, flycap is fairly good for recording I find as well

When recording I usually just record in mpeg 2 format and don't have any problems but when recording at resolutions you mentioned my computer is working pretty hard
