2004-01-11 09:17:00 | Can anybody help me with a search engine/home page that has been hijacked. And I can not gain access to it. I use Wind 98, when I click on internet options, my home page has changed and can not be altered, due to it being a grey colour, I can change it back if I go to programs and press default home page. I use spybot on it, it gets removed. My anti virus program tells me there is no virus. But every time I re-start my computer, my home page and e-mail address have been locked out and tamperd with. I have reloaded wind 98 again but it makes no difference. Thanks

2004-01-11 09:57:00 | Are you saying that you cannot access your internet options within IE because they are greyed out? Spybot Search and Destroy has a feature called "Immunize" . It can locked down your homepage and control panel . First of all, make sure this is not already turned on by looking under that setting - under "Recommended miscellaneous protections" . Change your homepage to what it should be and then re-enable that setting . See if that helps . Do you keep Spybot up to date with files? >I have reloaded wind 98 again but it makes no difference . That sounds a bit strange . Have you run a program for Trojans, which might not be detected with Antiviral software? Try this one ( . org/download . html" target="_blank">swatit . org) - get the free or demo version and give that a run .

2004-01-12 06:41:00 | Interestingly, this happened to my wife's pc and I faffed around hacking registries and all sorts. Nothing worked, it went back after restart every time. Then I actually clicked on the remove me option on the home page and it did it and that was it.... I was utterly amazed, but pleased. robo.

2004-01-14 09:14:00 | Thanks every one for the help, I can get back into my home page, it was the spybot. Still have the same problem on start up?, I have removed everything that shows up in my virus checks. But it seems the search engine that has hijacked my home page, has also made it my default page as well. Has anybody got any ideas how to change default home pages. I have limited knowledge on PCs, but I can follow instructions well. Thanks Again.

2004-01-14 17:54:00 | after you have reasigned your homepage(as posted above) you might want to find and run a program called cwshredder,it finds and removes a homepage hack that spybot tends to miss. Well, not so much miss but they update the hack faster then spybot updates its database.
