206712 2004-01-11 07:36:00 Hello all,
I am getting a list of all the components I need to make my new PC, and am wondering; 'What is better for the price? AMD or P4?' I do not want something running at 3Ghz, more around 2.3Ghz or similar. How much can you safely overclock each one?

Thanks in advance,

Nick

206713 2004-01-11 07:50:00 P4 2.4C is prob the best "bang for buck" P4 if you are interested. People have overclocked these little beasties up to 3.0Ghz using the stock standard Intel cooler.

There's heaps of info on the net about the P4 2.4C chip.

206716 2004-01-11 08:15:00 If you are interested in long life and stability then go for the Intel but not over-clocked. Being a conservative type person I believe that the specs as set by the manufacturer are for a reason. (In my mind who would tow a caravan behind a Mini because you have fitted a slightly larger radiator). JohnD (509)

Where in hell do you get the idea that AMD cpu's aren't stable and have a short life?

206720 2004-01-11 08:28:00 the question is not really what cpu but what motherboard/chipset to use. once that is decided pick your cpu to match.

intel chipsets are known for bing more stable than most that are advailable for AMD.

however what you have to way up is the price of the motherboard and cpu vers speed and stability.

happy hunting
