206909 2004-01-12 07:42:00 Hi all
I'm about to buy a new laptop (any I should stay away from?) I've heard that most virus's attach through IE. Can I remove IE and Outlook and install say... Mozilla?

Thanks Dave

206910 2004-01-12 07:46:00 AFAIK, You cant.... Windows just isnt built that way. Chilling_Silently (228)
206911 2004-01-12 07:48:00 Easier to install Mozilla - or whatever you like - and don't use IE. Will not do any harm leaving it in - and not easy to remove - allthough possible.
Bye

206912 2004-01-12 08:00:00 Depends on what OS you going to have on the new laptop, if it is win XP then(I think) you can remove IE & OE, even if you cant, you will have to keep IE/OE & your OS up to date with the windows updates & SP's. stu140103 (137)
206913 2004-01-12 10:10:00 As part of their settlement with the US DOJ, they have added an option to hide IE which is about all you can do.

You will be fine as long as you avoid using IE, and other apps that use it (eg outlook, etc).

206914 2004-01-12 10:30:00 I run XP home.I use Firebird yet still have IE,which now sits in the program files.I use IE now and again, mainly to remind myself how fast F/B is.I`ve had no issues since doing this.OE stays put, simply because I rarely use it. albatross (343)
206915 2004-01-12 11:12:00 You may well find the need every so often to fire up IE as some pages don't work well with Mozilla.

And no this aint a limitation of mozilla but a case of MS having their own standards....
