| 206872 | 2004-01-12 00:20:00 | I have installed a new fax/answerphone that is not allowing the computer to dial out [ no dial tone ]. The old replaced one was fine. They are on the same line with a dual plug at the jack point. In the manual for the new phone, there is a note that it may interfere with a computer on the same line and that the ISP may require a filter to be put into place. I am still gettting advice on this. Has anybody else experienced a similar situation and the solution? cheers. K. |

I think that will refer to "Jetstream" type ADSL internet connections, the fax would need a filter. For normal dial-up this should not be the problem. Its seems straight forward, that the computer is not getting any access to the line. Try connecting a phone to the dual socket at the wall. If that doesn't work, try a different dual socket. |

| 206877 | 2004-01-12 04:26:00 | They are still making dual socket adapters, and they are easier to get than wives. Some dual adapters are "privacy adapters" and may behave oddly. Avoid them. |
