207195 2004-01-13 22:06:00 Hi John, welcome to PF1.

You can find some info about rbf files by clicking Here (www.google.co.nz 2Brbf&hl=en&ie=UTF-8) and looking at the third entry from the top, but you may have to supply more information about your computer and what you were doing before this problem started before anyone can help you. Hopefully somebody has seen this before.

Cheers

207196 2004-01-13 22:28:00 thanks billy for your reply. i am running xp and i was cleaning up my hard drive but i have no idea which old programs i deleted joh8n (5110)
207197 2004-01-13 23:37:00 Well John, it seems that RBF is a raw binary file in some applications, or a Microsoft backup file in others . Since the latter is probably the case, it would sound like XP wants to replace something you have deleted and it won't shut up until you feed it .

You could search the XP help files for rbf references, you could try doing a system restore to a time before you did your deletions, you could try a reinstall/repair of XP which will leave your data and settings intact .

Not knowing what programs you deleted is a *BAD THING* as it means you deleted files fairly indiscriminately .

1) What actually were you trying to do and how did you go about it?

2) Did you delete programs using the add/remove programs function or their own uninstaller, or did you delete folders from Explorer .

3)Are the deletions still sitting in your recycle bin?? (faint hope, but worth asking)

4)I suppose it is no use asking the name of any of the programs you deleted though I am sure you must have some idea, I can't see anybody just deleting willy-nilly .

Unless another PF1 user comes along with actual experience or knowledge of the rbf error message you will have to try to retrace your steps to see what you deleted . That or try the restore/repair/reinstall path which may or may not lead to glory . :|

Cheers
