207106 2004-01-13 07:37:00 Hi Team

I normally surf one site at a time but recently I have wanted to keep two or three windows open at once. Problem is, when I open the next site it closes the one I had open before.

I only upgraded to IE 6 quite recently and don't recall this happening in the past when I was using IE 5, though I never paid much attention. :8}

I assume that there is some setting I have overlooked that allows multiple windows, so can anybody point me in the right direction?

Please note, at this stage I am not interested in trying new browsers, no matter how good they are. I'll only move that way if IE 6 can't give me multiple windows and even then, not for some time yet as my need is not pressing. It is a convenience thing more than anything else.

Cheers

or is this wrong?

right click IE> advanced > scroll down . . . . . untick " reuse windows for launching shortcuts"

please dont shoot me if this already done . . . . . feels funny telling you how to do something BT as its always other way round .

apologies if off the track a little .

but this is my understanding of what you are asking . may be way off .

207109 2004-01-13 08:32:00 Billy,I find the easiest way to open new windows in IE6 is to hold down the shift key when I click on another link. But another site.....?
Sorry ,can't work that out neither.

207110 2004-01-13 08:37:00 Yahoo Companion or Popup blockers can cause this problem. Jim B (153)

207112 2004-01-13 09:08:00 Maybe I ought to clarify things a bit . Suppose I was doing some work (yes, I do work!) and was browsing various pages . I find the info I want and am part-way through reading it when tea break comes along .

So, I think I'll treat myself to a look at PF1 while I have a cuppa, but when I open PF1 my original site is automatically closed . I can go back to it easily enough from IE history of course, but I would rather it stayed available, though perhaps wanting a refresh as IE has since gone off to another URL .

That's the scenario, and maybe I am asking too much but I am sure I had this facility in the past, though very little used .

Cheers

207113 2004-01-13 09:17:00 Im not really up on all the IE keystrokes, shift key as already said to open a new window in a site, otherwise the Back button, or as I often do, open multiple instances of Internet Explorer. I often have 4 or more different sites opened simultaneously as I refer from one to the other.

Is that what you mean Billy?

I am not sure if I am on the right track here. Assuming you have XP, and you want to show multiple copies of an open program in the task bar (as opposed to one button): Click on Start, Control Panel and open Taskbar and Start Menu. Click on the Taskbar tab and under Taskbar appearance delete the tick next to Group Similar Taskbar buttons. Click Apply.

This way you can open several copies of IE (or any other program) and switch between them from the Taskbar. Is that what you were wanting?

207115 2004-01-13 09:33:00 Apparently there is a tabbed add-in for IE (see http://www.avantbrowser.com/).

But why not use Mozilla?
