207065 2004-01-13 04:02:00 I want to be able to ring into my work PC from home and transfer a few files. Can I use hyper terminal, dialup networking? My home pc is running win98se and the work pc is win95 will this mix be a problem?

I am sure I have used Hyper terminal before but cant remember how to set it up, can someone explain? Please.

thanks

207066 2004-01-13 04:12:00 In Win9x there is something along the line of "Dial Up Server" or something - can't remember for sure. It's in the Dial Up Networking section. somebody (208)
207067 2004-01-13 04:15:00 Hi miknz1,

What type of connection is your work PC connected to on the internet and home PC, an always on connection would be best but you can also do this on dialup.

There are many ways of doing this which means turning the work computer into a server of some type.

A dialin server, which you can use if work computer is on dialup and you are on dialup, problem is any call made there would be considered an internet call and the work computer would pick up all calls and will send schreeching noises into your ears.

A good idea to set it up if on seperate line. Basically you set it up to receive internet calls, you then make your modem dial your work, your work computer picks the call up, verifies it and then you'll be networked onto your computer, but you still have to tell it which files you want to share and have read/write access too, just like any other network.

Another way if on always on connections, would be to have ftp setup on that computer, in that way you can upload files to it, and download files from it. You would might like to have a free DNS redirector so that you do not have to find out what IP address is being used if it's not a static IP address.

I have never used Hyper Terminal so I am unsure of it, but I always believed this program was for communicating to your modem.

I only have ideas but no answers sorry, but there's many ways of doing this.

207068 2004-01-13 05:00:00 Thanks for the comments, both comps are on dial up.
The work comp connects on the fax line. Want I want to be able to do is ring the work pc, connect with it and upload the files I need. Would like to be able to do this on a regular basis.
Will I need any special software or are the nesacary bits installed on the o/s?
