2004-01-13 02:34:00 | Hi - Just wondering about Microphones. Which is the best way to go, I have seen the headphone type, the stalk type and the lapel type and how do you know which one would be suitable to use with your machine and are there any hidden things I should know. All it is for is to talk to someone overseas. Thanks Bug =)

Although the bit about walking away and forgetting you are 'attached' is VERY true! My "Elite" brand headphone / mic set cost about $30 from Warehouse Stationery. I look like a pilot when wearing it but the headphones cut out background noise and the mic is clear. Nice bass too for music listening. J :D |

2004-01-13 03:24:00 | I have tried several mics and have settled on a cheap headphone/mic set. The other ones I tried were just hopeless. I had to get really close (awkward) but worse was the loud plops from plosive sounds. This latter problem makes the mic useless for speaking. Good luck.

2004-01-13 04:15:00 | I would suggest the $20 Cosonic headset mics which are sold at Warehouse Stationary. They have very good sound quality through the headphones, and the mic is also very good. It allows you to easily position the mic just in front of your mouth, so you don't end up chewing on the mic, yet the sound remains crisp and clear. | somebody (208) | |
2004-01-13 08:07:00 | Hi Ladybug..All suggestions here are helpful. It's personal preference. I have tried both headsets & the stalk microphone, mostly with 'Paltalk'. I prefer the stalk mic, together with the computer speakers, & so avoid being tied to the headset. If you wish a 'private' talk, then the headset is best. If using the stalk mic & speakers, the problem Jester mentioned about echo & 'hearing yourself' is easily overcome by correctly setting the Windows mixers. In the play control, 'mute' your mic input to the speakers, but in the Record control, 'select' the mic to send to the other party.
