206986 2004-01-12 11:18:00 I am currently having a problem with my Internet.
I am using Xtra's Jetstart Service and using a Dynalink 210 which has been returned and not affected by the factory recall.

My problem is that I leave it running for a game called Ragnarok Online which is on a US server and when I get back at the end of the day it tells me that I've timed out due to a gap between me and the server.
Also at times at night I get dissconnected for no reason and have to wait awhile before I can re-connect to the internet (usually around 5 mins)

If anyone knows what I can do please tell me

206987 2004-01-12 11:32:00 Hay it’s my old mate Norman (welcome)
To add to that post:
He had a person come in and install the filter directly to the room his PC is in
Also his old Internal modem had the same problem so I lent him my 210.
My 210 worked fine for about 2 months (in his house) before it started happening again.

I experienced a problem similar in my home with the same modem, the way I fixed mine was that I shortened the telephone cable from the filter to my PC from 20M to 50CM.
Please any help would be good because I’m as baffled as Norman.

206988 2004-01-12 18:30:00 Get the IP or public hostname of the server you're gaming on. For the purpose of this I'm going to use 210.48.100.45

Start > Run > "Command" (without the quote marks)
"Tracert 210.48.100.45" (once again without the quote marks)

Then you will get something that looks like this appearing:
root@Wn002:~# traceroute 210.48.100.45
traceroute to 210.48.100.45 (210.48.100.45), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets

What this does is tells you what route your machine is taking to get to the gaming server and that I seem to have real problems accessing PF1 :p. If I were getting problems accessing PF1 what that would tell me is that my request for info from PF1 is timing out at the ICONZ end of things.

Just another thing to think about seeing as you say it happens at night, Jetstream Starter supposedly works off shared bandwidth (between the DSLAM I'd guess) - so when Joe Bloggs comes home from where-ever and starts downloading the latest several hundred MB Windows XP Update you'll (in theory) find that your connection slows down a bit.

206989 2004-01-13 06:40:00 I'll have to ask my friend what to make out of the results I get.
But about the shared Bandwidth, it might slow down, but how does that explain the complete disconnection for upto 5 mins at a time, were programs like MSN and IE can't even connect ?

206990 2004-01-13 06:51:00 How you reconnect after the 5 mins??
Just leave your router on and wait for it to sort itself out?

Sounds like it could be overheating and then waits 5 mins to cool down to a standard level before reconnecting. I can't remember what the factory recall was about on the RTA210's but if it was overheating then it can't have been that. If not then you could try getting a desk fan and planting it infront of the router for a night then seeing the results (making sure it's turned on of course :p).

The main question regarding this however, is does your router only disconnect at night (assuming that's when you do the heaviest browsing, gaming, etc) or does it do it at other times?
