1354381 2013-09-25 21:30:00 Do many people here, use this utility?

I've heard it mentioned a lot, but never used it myself.
Generally I find PuTTy and Filezilla more than adequate for my purposes.

Part of a tutorial, I've been following, suggested it to copy a file in /etc/openvpn, on my Rasppi, to a folder on my windows machine. So I downloaded it and installed it with the "commander" interface, and while it wasn't very successful with even identifying /etc on the RaspPi, I thought it had an interesting interface. So I used it to see what it could do with my Linux server - that works really well! I think it might be worthwhile investigating it's capabilities?

Am I better to just stick with Filezilla?

1354382 2013-09-25 22:09:00 Nah its great, I use it all the time from Windows. You'll need to just get used to how the linux filesystem works. Go "Up a level" to get to /etc Chilling_Silence (9)

I've just created a photo gallery type web page, using "jalbum", and saved it into a folder on my desktop. Then I opened up WinSCP and just dragged 'n dropped the folder into the web site part of my server - very slick.
I did this from root (not good practice - alright from home I guess), as the user would not let me do it. I'll bet I'd better check the users permissions.
All my users in /xhomes (web) are chroot jailed. But it's handy to have some, that can have files dumped into them from a remote location. i.e. I do photo galleries for those at home while I'm out and about.

Anyway I can see I could get to really like this programme.

1354384 2013-09-26 01:36:00 I went up a level, just like you said Chill. And there it was /etc, in all it's glory!
It wouldn't work for me last night, for some reason, or I was confused or something; because I do know about the linux file system.
Maybe I just imagined it was a WinSCP quirk and looked for something more complicated ...I dunno.

I also tried another user, for dropping files into - worked perfectly. It's a kinda Dropbox alternative, I called it filesync and I can get to it from anywhere using SFTP Net Drive Free. It's also "chroot jailed" - just like my photo galleries. But from what I can see, WinSCP is going to do the same job. Just a tad slicker than good old Filezilla.

1354385 2013-09-26 03:14:00 Only time I had to use WinSCP was to transfer VM files accross ESX hosts...didnt like it much, very slow!... SolMiester (139)
