1354081 2013-09-23 00:35:00 I was trying to find where some files from my WOW mouse saved them .

I couldn't find the directory so I went into the hidden files directory - I still couldn't find them .

But now with all my skill - I no longer have a directory with my name . It is now under Users with the directory name LA3346~1~KNI

That is a directory I never saw (or I think existed) before .

I was just downloading some files and now the download directory is blank .

I am confused .

All the file folders are empty .

Did what I wrote make any sense?

Can someone help me find the files?

Thanks

I have no idea what that means

No 1 rule, dont download any new files , dont use email, dont make any new docs, dont write anything to the HD untill you have found your files.
All I can suggest is doing a search for some of the files . Also look in the recycle bin
If that doesnt work, you will need to do a data recovery, you may need to take it to a PC Techie for that

1354083 2013-09-23 01:05:00 If My Documents is (or was) a large folder, or had large files, WinDirStat might be one approach to finding them. pcuser42 (130)

I don't know what that means either. Windows on Windows? World of Warcraft?

If your user folder has renamed itself to some garbage like LA3346~1~KNI - that to me sounds like there is filesystem and\or registry corruption - maybe caused by a virus. Check your machine for viruses and hardware faults.

Best bet for recovery is to stop using the machine completely as 1101 said, then if it was me I'd take a backup image of the entire drive and scan that with a recovery software, especially if there are any signs of hard disk problems.

Wow mouse . . . whatever cryptic comment that is .

Or the corruption is due to some other cause . . . . but it's most likely trashed profile and associated personal files . . . .

Lurking.

I had the above problem caused by a virus - but the account folder\files did not get deleted or corrupted. Was able to recover the account with 3rd party software after removing the virus.

1354088 2013-09-29 17:53:00 I apologize for not being clearer in my initial post.

I believe the lost documents came from me trying to find a directory that was hidden. I think I found it but now I can't get the initial directories to show. I caused the problem by playing with indexing in the properties section of disc C. That is how I got the weird directory and lost the normal one.

I can't figure out how to get back to normal.

The other one is my computer is full of conduit stuff. I did not expect ESET Smart Security to let conduit get on this computer. In the past if I wanted to do something dumb I got a big warning and it made it very hard to ignore. With conduit, it somehow snuck on.

I did an AdwCleaner and the report showed conduit everywhere. Should I just delete all the stuff it says I should or should I do more? I used all the cleaner stuff Speedy Gonzales left. But they didn't find anything.

Some of the problems that all this has caused is Netflix will not load. The error message says I am in incognito mode and it won't load till I get out of that mode. But, I am not in that mode. It says Foxfire is running but I can't find it to close it. Some of the desk top icons have disappeared.

I think that is enough problems.

Thanks

1354089 2013-09-29 21:11:00 What hidden directory were you trying to find and why? What did you do to the indexing options?

If your computer has some malware I would remove that first, it may be causing the problem... Sure, use AdwCleaner to remove any problems it finds. You may also have more than just 'Conduit search' lurking in there...

1354090 2013-09-29 23:29:00 I was looking for the hidden directory I thought my World of Warcraft mouse put the profile of some of my characters.

If I really knew what I did with the indexing options I would have corrected the problem myself.

When I open a directory no files show up in the directory. That is the same for all directories.

I think what I screwed up was in Properties, General, Attributes- Read only. I may have messed up something in the advanced settings. I am not sure.

If I click on Documents from the start menu it shows My Documents (2) then the directory c:\Users\L.A.Kniess. In that directory are two files both just now created.

So somewhere all the old files are - just sitting there waiting to be discovered again.

By the way I still can't get to Netflix something is wrong with Silverlight. It says it won't load because I am in incognito mode and it won't load till I get out that mode. Which I am not in.
