Strikemaster (www.youtube.com)
I wish I had a spare $1500 or so for a demo flight, which is what'd cost :drool

1332483 2013-03-13 07:45:00 Truly impressive. I'm in the same drool boat as WalOne, no cash to spare :( The Error Guy (14052)
1332484 2013-03-13 10:55:00 Brilliant but not as comfy as lying on a mattress in the nose of a Bristol Freighter flying out of Singapore many years ago.
Well done - thanks

1332486 2013-03-13 21:09:00 A very pretty and effective trainer. What are the zigzag wire pieces above the screen? Richard (739)
1332487 2013-03-13 21:38:00 I have worked on every Viper fitted to the airfarce 167 some of them buku times. I would say getting engine parts could become a problem. The hot end on them does not last very long especially if the throttle is bashed like in aeros. prefect (6291)

its det cord which goes off first on the ejection sequence to smash the canopy. Before if the canopy did not jettison the seat would still fire (unlike other seats) and rely on a stick thing above the seat to smash it. Fraught with danger being propelled through a jagged perspex hole.

1332489 2013-03-13 22:07:00 Thanks Prefect. Through jagged perspex would not be the most desirable way to leave a plane. Richard (739)
1332490 2013-03-13 22:17:00 Cool memories! Had a couple of 1.5hr flights in one of these when I was on 5 sqd at Whenuapai 1975. Was a real thrill - especially doing aerobatics pulling 4-5 G. Pilots would take a passenger for company when doing boring exercises. We had to fly grid patterns over HMNZS Canterbury, I believe so they could sight guns etc. Thanks Walone took me back a few years! fnphoto (2434)

Without being factitious before the det cord was fitted at least you had a chance to live if the canopy did not fly off. On the Escapac (American) seats it was part of the sequence, a cord was attached to the canopy and as it flew off it continued the ejection sequence.
If the canopy did not fly off say stuck from damage you could pull a ring with canopy jettison on it which fired a little charge, if that didnt work you then flicked up the canopy open lever and hoped the airflow would get under it and break it off. If the canopy stayed there so did you!
