As The Herald puts it, "Models could ease traffic woes (www.nzherald.co.nz)". What a brilliant idea - put miniature 300mm or so long cars on the roads and they can handle the traffic easily. We've been trying to fit full size cars on toy roads for far too long.

1332355 2013-03-12 08:43:00 Or we could build the City Rail Link and actually do something useful ;) pcuser42 (130)
1332356 2013-03-12 08:54:00 OO gauge be about right?

1332357 2013-03-12 09:12:00 OO gauge be about right?;) Too small, we need 1,067mm gauge. pcuser42 (130)
1332358 2013-03-12 09:25:00 :clap Right, I'll head off to Takapuna Station and wait. There may be quite a bit of wait, but we've grown to expect that with rail transport systems. At least the graffiti is vibrant and exciting alongside the rail corridor (comparative to the bit between the graffiti strips). :clap R2x1 (4628)
1332359 2013-03-12 19:12:00 Just ban cars on the roads between the hours of 3am to 10pm I'm sure that will fix the problem gary67 (56)

1332361 2013-03-12 20:07:00 This quote shows quite clearly the disconnect between the so-called "experts" and the real road user:

"People are often more concerned about the variability of their trip times rather than the absolute duration. They can plan for a longer journey time if they know about it. It is the uncertainty that causes problems,'' Dr Koorey said.

That might be fine if you're talking about roadworks, because if you've been caught in a tailback on Monday because of roadworks, your can adjust your subsequent travel times, with no reference to NZTA "experts".

The REAL issue is the unexpected holdups - you're stuck in traffic (for 50% longer than normal), 15km away from the scene where a truck and van have crashed in rush hour traffic on the Newmarket Viaduct (this didn't affect me BTW, but it did impact on thousands of Auckland commuters just a few days ago).

How do you "plan" for that Mr Koorey???

1332362 2013-03-12 20:11:00 If the experts say we should have model cars, that is what we must do. The cyclists are justified in being nervous if the planners start eying them up, scaling for them could be even worse than it is for fish. ;) R2x1 (4628)
1332363 2013-03-12 20:43:00 All will be resolved when “Robbie’s Rapid Rail” is completed. ;) B.M. (505)
