1332113 2013-03-11 21:38:00 You won't think it so funny when the Gov't starts levying you for the process. The DSIR successor announced they are on the way to solving the drought problem with a two-pronged scientific program.
Firstly, dehydrated water to minimise shipping costs and difficulties. Just email it to where it is most needed.
Secondly, a cheap substitute for seawater that can be speedily produced in enormous quantities wherever there is a suitable desalination plant.

Very clever.
But actually who ever cracks this will eb rich.

It silly really water is made of hydrogen and oxygen.
The air is full of it, and we cant make it.
And we can't de-salinate it easily (cheaply)

And yes sending water up a river is quite funny - but may become necessary!

Bill Bryson had a whole chapter on water in his book the History of Everything.
I'll have to get it back from my brother and read ti again.

1332116 2013-03-12 01:58:00 It seems our new age cockys’ are as bad as everyone else when it comes to passing the buck.

But I’ll bet there are plenty out there who cut a couple of lots of hay when you couldn’t see the stock for grass back in November and made sure they had adequate water supplies from bores and runoff.

And yep, you may have to reduce your stock numbers, but that’s farming, nothing new.

Don’t know what all the fuss is about.

The fuss is about farmers crying to gummint.

You are right, there are those that prepare for worst.

But Richard Branson probably has more money than Fonterra

Just read his latest book.

But look what drinking that water has done to that guys mouth!

I read that one of the Gulf states makes most of its water in desalinization plants that they use for general purposes.

But they buy their drinking water from France!
