| 1331467 | 2013-03-10 03:34:00 | I was a long time Telecom customer until about 6 months ago when we decided to build a house in Carterton. We sold our Lower Hutt house, moved temporarily into a small home-unit and as the Carterton subdivision was fibre only (an early BoF system where you a choice of ISPs - WorldeXchange or nobody) we decided (or rather I decided) to abandon the PSTN early. We went for Snap naked DSL and 2talk for VoIP and a LinkSys SPA122 ATA device. Unfortunately, my Netcomm router was buried in storage somewhere and I only had a old Thomson router. Voice quality wasn't perfect and occasionally all incoming calls would go straight to voice mail even though outgoing calls worked fine. There were threats along the line of "get us back to Telecom !! " I resisted these and on CS's recommendation, bought an ASUS N12U router. Same problem. So I did what I should have done in the first place, updated the firmware on everything and so far we are all OK. Fingers crossed. On the grapevine, I have heard that Telecom's contract with Worldexchange is ending on 31/3 and all BoF areas will be converted to UFB. With luck, we will be able to choose from a range of ISPs by the time we move in but the PSTN is gone forever. (I have already bought a UPS) |

It's a shame coz otherwise it's a pretty decent router. I'm on VDSL2 so can't directly test it, only have some customers at work that are able to. Threw 12 SIP peers through it the other day and it totally shat bricks :p | Chilling_Silence (9) | ||
