1332104 2013-03-11 04:28:00 Can we assume farmers think there will never be water shortage, so do nowt. Cicero (40)
1332105 2013-03-11 05:06:00 some certainly, just watched Prime news and the farmer on there wasn't complaining as he decided to grow maize as feed for just this type of situation gary67 (56)
1332106 2013-03-11 05:12:00 That of course should be the way of the farmer, enjoy the good times and prepare for the bad times. Cicero (40)
1332107 2013-03-11 05:32:00 Could water be shipped up from Manapouri in ships to Northland and the Waikato ?

Well of course it can, its just somebody organising it
And working how much it is going to cost.

Whilst it may be good for a small selected few types of farming overall its very bad fro NZ.
And surely tomato trees and grapevines need some water !

And what about those dry/empty Canterbuy rivers we saw on Campbell live a few weeks ago ?

And apart from that, they would need a million ships to bring sufficient.

1332110 2013-03-11 19:30:00 Am I the only one who thinks the Idea of carting shiploads of water up a RIVER funny ? dugimodo (138)
1332111 2013-03-11 19:49:00 You won't think it so funny when the Gov't starts levying you for the process. The DSIR successor announced they are on the way to solving the drought problem with a two-pronged scientific program.
Firstly, dehydrated water to minimise shipping costs and difficulties. Just email it to where it is most needed.
Secondly, a cheap substitute for seawater that can be speedily produced in enormous quantities wherever there is a suitable desalination plant.

1332112 2013-03-11 21:17:00 It seems our new age cockys’ are as bad as everyone else when it comes to passing the buck .

But I’ll bet there are plenty out there who cut a couple of lots of hay when you couldn’t see the stock for grass back in November and made sure they had adequate water supplies from bores and runoff .

And yep, you may have to reduce your stock numbers, but that’s farming, nothing new .

Don’t know what all the fuss is about .
