| 1332156 | 2013-03-11 05:09:00 | i have a rotel amp and a marantz cd player coupled with a pair of Mission M75 speakers, all up cost less than $5000 ten years ago and still sounds amazing, unless you try and play MP3's but with real files its great | gary67 (56) | ||
| 1332157 | 2013-03-11 06:23:00 | Good audio tech will last, a high end analogue system from late 80's through 90's will work just as well as a similar quality digital product now. Most I'd spend on audio is 10k, any more than that and IMO you're burning money. My "first" set-up will probably be comprised of some good 2nd hand parts. Right now I'm running a very simple Pioneer HT system. |

| 1332159 | 2013-03-11 07:12:00 | I've got the second of the two Pioneers advertised. It's a couple of years old but looks identical, both amp and remote. I would not get Pioneer again. It is extremely poorly thought out. One needs the handbook to go back to the radio station being listened to if someone accidentally touches one of the remote's 100 buttons. (If you don't believe me, have a look at the remote) The FM tuner is poorly shielded so suffers from multipath. Changing source is slow so listening to the radio during TV ads is unsatisfactory. HDMI pass through doesn't work properly - captures the TV when I don't want it to. My model doesn't have internet radio but does have a limited USB function. It's so limited (particularly the display) that it's really only good for charging I think I would go for Sony in the future. I can't imagine Sony making such elementary mistakes on the user interface |

I had the TX-NR609 but it would do things like drop power cycle itself, as though it thought the HDMI wasn't sending a signal . That got "repaired" but it didn't fix it, and there was another issue as well but I forget . So they replaced that with the TX-NR515 which now does stupid things like: Sometimes the video has a strong green tinge to it Sometimes the remote (Both IR and Network) stop responding Sometimes it hangs and won't change inputs So yeah . . . Updated firmware a to the absolute latest and stuff, it's good fun :p But yeah I definitely like them, and the functionality otherwise, aside from the silly little issues like that :-/ The 609 does most things the average person needs and more! I would give them another try - it is quality and is designed to last . Onyko is pretty cheaply made - just compare the weight!!! Head down to AV World (try out their Tardis!) and talk to them about it . I'm 99% sure you just had some bad luck with your unit . . . . |

I was nearly stung a few years ago looking at marantz amps . |

That is true of the Onkyo that they use thinner sheet metal for the case so keeps the cost down but the quality of the components is still there . Only quoting from reviews I have read not my own opinion . My one runs about 2 or 3 hours a day and has done so for 2 years without any problems . :) |

| 1332163 | 2013-03-11 12:36:00 | Ah see I've been leaving my NR515 on 24/7, apparently it gets a bit fussy when I do that. I only do that though because I can't turn it on via the Android app otherwise. However, I've discovered that I can play a file on my Raspberry Pi (Running XBMC) from the Yatse app real easily, which in turn triggers the Onkyo to turn on, which then triggers the TV and that also turns on... So basically I just have to do it that way instead :D |
