1331694 2013-03-07 04:31:00 I just use fairly hot water with dish washing liquid in it to get that film off the inside of your windscreen. Put quite a bit of the liquid into the water.

1331695 2013-03-07 04:51:00 Many so-called glass cleaners leave a film which causes smearing either inside or outside. The aim should be to clean glass so that the contact angle due to surface tension is as near zero as possible. (In physics and chemistry, chromic and sulphuric acids :) are used to produce chemically clean glass followed by copious washing with distilled water, this will give zero contact angle)

Surface treatments like Rainex produce very high contact angles, so that the water beads in drops. This is ok until the wipers are used at night, then there will be irritating smears.

I use very dilute ammonia based Handy Andy in windscreen wash, wiper smears are non-existent, but it is not so easy to wash off the inside of a screen.

Kaolin mixed with a little water and a lot of rubbing will remove acid rain drop marks and also Rainex coating.

How do you hold the marked acid rain drops to clean them? I keep squashing the little sods .

1331701 2013-03-08 00:40:00 What a great thread, I'm going to try some of these tips on my grubby windscreen as well. One thing I read a while ago is not to wash the windows with car wash as it contains a kind of wax polish in it which will leave a film on the glass.

Oh, and the off-beat non-sensible replies gave me a giggle. :p

1331703 2013-03-08 00:58:00 Are you sure it's actually dirt and you're not trying to delaminate the windscreen itself? Agent_24 (57)
