2013-03-05 22:34:00 | Just make sure you are not on an old telecom plan like I was, was getting 160 GBs that I always went over. Now getting 500gb for $10 less a month. | plod (107) | |
2013-03-05 22:44:00 | Thats what TC wanted me to do. Go on the 160 GB plan for the same price I was paying before 100 and something. I said nah. I wouldn't use that much in a mth. It'd be a waste of my money. I'll go on the $82 plan | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2013-03-05 22:49:00 | Telec-who? :banana Actrix all the way bud. Why would there be any disadvantages of leaving greedy provider?

2013-03-06 00:04:00 | One thing to keep in mind: VoIP can be very reliable, but it relies on three things: 1) Reliable router - The one your ISP supplies you is not 2) Reliable internet - Crappy home wiring just won't cut the mustard 3) Reliable power - Get a small UPS for $60 and put your Router, Switch, and ATA VoIP adapters on it, along with potentially your cordless phone base station. Nothing else If you can do that, you'll likely find your VoIP experience to be more reliable and feature-rich, along with cost-effective than a traditional landline. Speaking from experience, as somebody who works all day every day in VoIP and traditional ISDN telephony, the most drawn out issues we have are when people are using landlines (they take telco's ages to fix) and when they have a crap router.

2013-03-06 07:25:00 | We left Telecom phone maybe about half a decade ago.. First was Xnet in their better days from what pple said. Then it was Actrix 12 months might have been special deal, then Orcon 12 months again and now Telstraclear 12 months. We don't use their phone and direct dial .. we use the various international calling phonecards. Come maybe month of May and we would reconsider. I think the fineprint says my 40GB will then suddenly become $120 per month .... I see Telstraclear have another deal $82 (?) for 60GB or something but that's probably for new Telstraclear clients. How bad is Orcon really? What are the good ISPs? One option is going back to Actrix but they are on the pricier side for a bit more quality. | Nomad (952) | |
2013-03-06 07:33:00 | I'm on the 60 GB / $82 plan now. Thats what I went to from the 2 yr contract / plan I was on. Which I think was $120. They wanted to put me on the 160 GB plan which was the same price as my old plan ($120). I said no. I think thats the plan you're talking about Nomad I wanted the cheaper / lower plan (the 60 GB plan). So no, its not for new customers (the 60 GB plan). I went from the old plan to this plan. Only diff you wont get the modem or the 2 mths free BB. since you're not a new customer, if you change to it The $82 inc phone and the 60 GB but not toll calls

2013-03-06 08:52:00 | @Speedy - yeah the fine-print says they revert you back to the std plan. Not sure if it is the 160GB, they weren't that big last year ... maybe last year the market price (non sale) was ~$100 for a 40GB ... I think I am paying $75 now right for 40GB that includes about a $30 subsidy ... | Nomad (952) | |
2013-03-08 00:51:00 | My ISP had a good deal going at the end of last year whereby we could have a far larger data cap and landline with them for less than what we had with landline with Telecom so I switched and now have phone with my ISP. Have noticed no difference in quality of service but I'm going to investigate why our Internet is so slow compared with my sister's in the North Island. Not sure if it is my modem or location but I hope I can get far better.

2013-03-08 01:30:00 | Stayed loyal to them even as they split from the New Zealand Post Office. When I had a Post Office home ownership account they were only too happy to lend me money for a house as single man /earner, on the basis I would get flatmates in to help cover the mortgage payments. Never forgot that act of kindness. I am a loyalty person unless they do something really drastic to piss me off I will stay xtra/telekom. | prefect (6291) | |
