207291 2004-01-14 05:42:00 I have a new computer, Msi Megabox running Xp home. Worked fine on a dial up connection but I got broadband from Telecom and they installed an Alcatel modem.
My problem is a strange one. Once the system has been running for an hour or so, it wil generally connect almost immediately. However, from a cold start in the morning, that POS modem just refuses to make a connection for about an hour. We get a series of error messages but it wont go until we are hot and bothered.
Oh, I have had the run around from Telecom(its not our product), Alstrom(we only did the wiring)and Alcatel( we only supplied the unit for Telecom).
I know the problem belongs to Telecom because they send the bill but I am not getting much help resolving this.

Has anyone heard of this type of problem before

207292 2004-01-14 06:23:00 Interesting - I got the 128 capped DSL service recently and installed my Alcatel USB modem. It worked fine at the start and then after about a week I got intermittent disconnections that just drove me crazy. The link was clearly not being 'established' with the exchange and many calls to Telecom failed to establish a Yes or No as to any problems at their end. Then just as quickly as it started the problem disappeared. Was it my Alcatel modem or the Exchange? I guess I will never know. PressF1 User (1065)
207293 2004-01-14 20:37:00 Hi Waldorf, get onto Telecom an get them to send out an alstom guy to check the curcuit out first thing in the morning,if that is when it usually plays up.If they prove the adsl is OK,they will probably charge you $81,but you should be able to then go back to Telecom and say the modem must be faulty, and get a new one and you should get your money back as well.Try it and see
