| 207422 | 2004-01-14 10:49:00 | Hi all, I have a linux gateway box setup running Mandrake 8.1 (Kernel 2.4.25) with packet queueing and prioritisng (using tc), and the gateway box is connected to the internet throught the router. I have my traffic shaping setup so that i can leave file-sharing programs or large downloads running in the background without it having a major imapact on online games, web browsing, and other realtime tasks. My question is, will my router be making my efforts pointless? Will it screw up my queues and my packets? If so, how do i stop it doing this and turn it, miraculously, into a normal(ish) adsl modem. For reference im using a dse XH1149 (Interface Demo (www.dse.co.nz)). Any help would be much appreciated, Regards, // mb0o53 |

| 207423 | 2004-01-14 17:51:00 | No - all your ADSL Router is doing is receiving packets from the gateway in the order they are sent in received (which is after they've been prioritized and sent out), your router is receiving the requests, and going off to get the required information then ship it back to you via your firewall. The ADSL Router doesn't care where it receives packets from or in what order. CyberChuck |
