| 207328 | 2004-01-14 06:45:00 | Ok I use orcons jetstart thingie I access the web through a network, well through a hub connected to a router. What I can't figure out is where do I change my Login,? Am I supposed to change it at the router end or is there a page I am supposed to go to login. I am actually not interested in gaming at all, I'm just after the Linux distros. thanks |

AFAIK there aren't that many distro's on the JSG realm as most got deleted to make space for the games. There's only a Gentoo Mirror, Fedora and maybe debian IIRC. |

| 207330 | 2004-01-14 06:57:00 | Changing the login on the router is a complete pain and I don't bother on that basis. Not into gaming enough to warrant it. Frankly, it seems stupid and you'd think Xtra could ID the traffic and not charge for it. It must add to their helpdesk calls. robo. |

Heh, that's about right :-D. Speaking of this - mind if I hijack the thread a bit? Currently (starting yesterday and continuing through today stopping about 6:00ish) did anyone have troubles getting on the JSG Realm? It's just Xtra acknowledged a fault on their DSL network which was dropping customers - so after seeing I was one of them, I tried the realm and still couldn't login on that - so I was just wondering if anyone else had troubles getting on the realm seeing as they run the servers for it. Going back on topic however, you'd be better to leave yourself connected to the internet with whatever ADSL provider you have and then scrounge around the number of Linux FTP mirrors in NZ (Assuming you're on a Jetstream Starter plan and don't get charged for national traffic). A list of national Linux mirrors are: www.nz.kernel.org ftp://ftp.ihug.co.nz/Linux/ ftp://ftp.citylink.co.nz/ ftp://debian.paradise.net.nz/ ftp://debian.co.nz/ CyberChuck |

I only use JSG to find a gaming file i want, and then download it at the 600KB/s i really want. Their DNS servers disallow traffic to any other location on the internet other than on the realm, and so for that reason is only good to log on, get what you want, and then log the hell off. If other people are using the internet, then it would much to their annoyance. PS. I dont evem use it for gaming, its pings are only a few lower than my normal ones (surprising, download like 8Mbps, play like 128Kbps....) |

In fact my connection now with Orcon Jetstart is faster than what ever I got thru the Jetstream Games realm. Paradise Jetstart was slower than Orcon, but only slightly higher than what the JSG pings were |
