ok

I have sort of an idea of the advantages of NTFS over FAT32?, but to keep thing simple & to keep my idea in tack, I will keep FAT32, for now....

I have to ask this :D

What IF Win XP does NOT encountered another version of Windows???

I hope in hell it does find the other OS!

If I get what you mean (e.g. different computers & installing etc…) then the 40GB will be in the same machine as the 10GB, & I think my dad will be doing all the copying etc... All on the one computer the one the 10GB one is in at the moment.

Is that what you mean?

207800 2004-01-16 01:17:00 I take that to mean that you have a 10GB disk in the machine, which boots and runs Windows ME . You are replacing the 10Gb with a 40GB drive, on which you want to install XP?

In that case, I am suggesting that you should make the 40GB disk the master and keep the 10GB, as slave . That way, you can make the XP's boot manager let you choose which system you want .

(BTW, two OS's shouldn't duel, though dual booting systems sometimes give that impression . . . )

I have not done it yet, I am just what to know what to do IF it does not encountered another version of win

Install WinME, Image it, Do whatever with it, and put it wherever you like, but Im not sure if it'll boot if you install it onto the 2nd partition on a HDD. I know that Win98 did so I dont see why WinME shouldnt.

Install WinXP, and it WILL pick up WinME on the other partition!

Just be careful about changing the location of the HDD that WinXP is installed on after wards coz it can throw a wobbly sometimes due to the settings being specified in the boot.ini file.

Just do a good backup of all your files and hope for the best, it shouldnt be too difficult :-)

Stick with FAT32 for the time being, tell ya dad you can convert it to ntfs later if you really must, but stick with FAT32.....

Other than that, good luck man :-)

Chill.
