208022 2004-01-17 04:21:00 Can any one tell me whether it is worthwhile upgrading to a new processor on an older motherboard.
The existing CPU is a celeron 1.0 Ghz with 256 Mb ram running Windows XP.
I'm going to put more Ram in, but wondered if I would get a good performance lift by also updating to a 1.3 Ghz Celeron. This appears to be as high as I can go as the bus is 100 Megahertz and the socket is 370. I can get a 1.3 and fan new for $120.00 NZ. Is this worthwhile or time to buy a new PC or motherboard?

208023 2004-01-17 05:11:00 Dont bother mate. Save ur money for something else .... 1 GHz to 1.3 isn't really gonna make a whole lot of difference. In fact you might even be able to overclock ur existing 1.0 GHz to 1.3.

If I were you, I ll just save the money ...and buy a whole new computer all together. : )
