| 208306 | 2004-01-18 18:49:00 | Hi - We have the above printer and it has been working fine until now. While printing something colours were normal but part way through lost some colour. Tried another pic and it had lost even more colour. Did a nossle test and black is ok but we only have the blue colour no yellow or red. I know Im going to have to replace cartridge but I just wondered if anyone can tell me why this might have happened. Also how do I know how much ink is left in the ink container. This use to show up when did printing preview but now the boxes are just blank. Thanks Bug :) |

Because the colours have run out!! ;-) :D If the printer is short of one or more colours it can't print coloured pages properly because it needs all three colours to produce coloured text/images. The printer mixes the three colours to get the 16 million (or whatever it is) colours that it can print. How is it going to print green when the cartridge only has blue in it?! > Also how do I know how much ink is left in the ink > container. Well if you were to print a page of red, it would use mostly magenta , but also cyan and yellow. |

Also it depends on how much you have been printing & what colours you have been using the most I think. |

That's why you don't get much colour. ;-) It's usually a bad idea to take Epson cartridges out to have a look: Epson assume that there's only one reason to take them out ... replacement. |

I would just like to say - we dont do alot a printing, and most of the time the colours are pretty much right across the board - not just one or two colours . Also the colour gauge has not been working on either black or colour and hasnt done so for a long time . I havent taken the cartridge out either - i just know that you cant see thru them . Hey no matter peoples I just thought people might have had a similar thing happen to them . Bug |

| 208313 | 2004-01-19 03:27:00 | Re ink level - I use a canon but assume the system is much the same. When replacing a cartridge, you have to tell the printer and tick a box to show. Mine tells me it is running out about 20 pages early, but I carry on until it is empty with no problems. Bye |

| 208314 | 2004-03-07 08:49:00 | OK sorry to drag this up again, the printer has started to work ok again - colour back to normal BUT the colour/black gauge still has no indication of how much ink is left in cartridge. When we first got the printer it did, can someone point me in the right direction to help solve this??? Thanks bug |

| 208315 | 2004-03-07 08:56:00 | Well, it's either hardware or software, and since fixing the former is an economic lost cause, I'd try the latter . Uninstall the printer and drivers using the manufacturers' recommended method (though I found with W98 that deleting the printer in control panel automatically removed the drivers, much to my surprise) then reinstall, allowing the computer to detect the printer after a reboot and follow instructions to reinstall the drivers .
